Cool colors, clean lines and an elegant Asian aesthetic will mark this year's Academy Awards Governors Ball, which follows the Oscar ceremony on Feb 22. The event team headed by Los Angeles-based Sequoia Productions offered a media preview at the Kodak Theatre on Monday.

Parsons chairs with tall, narrow backs are wrapped tightly in silky stretch velvets in bronze and pewter. Rectangular tables, some featuring troughs down the center for floral, are topped with nubby linens shot with metallic strands and runners embroidered with discreet floral motifs. Clear, square chargers are accompanied by stainless flatware with bamboo-shaped handles and cylindrical stemware flaring at the base. Scenic fabrication is credited to Glendale, Calif.-based Ethos Design; tabletop will come from Los Angeles-based Classic Party Rentals and its Unique Tabletop Rentals arm.  Reseda, Calif.-based Resource One will supply linen.

Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based florist Mark's Garden continues the Asian mood with organic floral. White tulips mix with blue hyacinth, succulents, bare branches and deep purple calla lilies. The centerpieces range from giant "bonsai trees" created from grapevine wood and Ming greenery to low-profile "Zen gardens."

Wolfgang Puck and Sherry Yard

Wolfgang Puck and Sherry Yard show the Oscar "bento box" dessert to reporters.

The 1,500 guests will dine on a menu from longtime Oscar caterer Wolfgang Puck, partnering with executive chef Matt Bencivenga and pastry chef Sherry Yard. The celebrity chef will continue his tradition of offering responsible menus stressing sustainable seafood, natural beef and organic produce.
