De Boer Adds Offices, Staff

The American arm of Netherlands-based tent giant De Boer Internationaal Tentenverhuur — Atlanta-based De Boer Structures USA — has embarked on an expansion program that includes new offices and staff.

The expansion program comes in the wake of an infusion of European venture capital, according to De Boer Structures USA president Irene de Boer. While declining to specify the level of new funding, she told Special Events Magazine that the funding means “the sleeping giant has awakened.”

Brian Eaton and Doyle Minton, both formerly of United Rentals, have joined De Boer as account executives. Eaton will work out of the company's new Baltimore office and Minton out of the new Charlotte, N.C., office. Also, 11 new employees have joined the Atlanta office since March, De Boer reported.

The company has also more than doubled the size of its Atlanta warehouse space this year — to 50,000 square feet — to stock new inventory.

The Mirage Opens New Events Center

The Mirage hotel in Las Vegas opened its new Events Center in April, adding 90,000 square feet of convention space for a total of 170,000 square feet of event and meeting facility space. The Events Center can be divided to create rooms of 10,000, 30,000 or 60,000 square feet, and features multiple freight doors, loading docks, a private access road and 30-foot ceilings. The new convention space offers users floor and ceiling electrical power distribution, as well as patchable fiber and Ethernet cable — technological advances that allow the incorporation of high definition video and broadband Internet connections into corporate events, center representatives said.

The opening of the Events Center marks the culmination of a two-phase expansion project that began in 1999 with the addition of 17 new meeting rooms of varying sizes to the hotel's convention complex. Gail Fitzgerald, vice president of hotel marketing and sales for The Mirage, said that the recently added meeting rooms “provide the flexibility to accommodate the numerous small groups that are a major component of our business mix.” The main Events Center building is ideal for the trade show and convention market, she added.
