Current Events: Planning the Globe Expands Services

Charleston, S.C.-based meeting company Planning the Globe has launched a destination management division. Planning the Globe president Veronica Walsh said she created the as-yet-unnamed division as a way to offer clients “one-phone-call service” for organizing and managing corporate and association events. She explained that she has taken on many destination management duties in her six years as a corporate meeting planner and called the DMC launch a “natural progression” for her three-year-old firm.

Operating with seven full-time staff members and “countless” contract employees, Walsh said, Planning the Globe and its new destination division will specialize in the Eastern Carolinas region, which includes Myrtle Beach, Charleston and Hilton Head, S.C., as well as Savannah, Ga., and other cities. The linked companies will assist clients with site selection, ground transportation, leisure activities and tours, as well as event design, decor and theming.

Walsh said her expanded company is designed to “work with clients who already have existing meeting planning departments but need a company to handle overflow, as well as clients who utilize independent meeting planning companies for all their logistical planning.”
