Airfares soar in Q2 The second quarter of 2008 marked a seven-year high in the average airfare paid by business travelers, according to American Express Business Travel. Oil prices, capacity constraints and ticketing restrictions drove up North American domestic airfares 10 percent year over year. The average international one-way airfares were up 11 percent in the quarter compared with the year prior, putting them at the highest level since 1999.
