Aztec picks up assets of Academy Tent

Torrance, Calif.-based Aztec Tents & Events announced today that it has purchased substantial assets of Los Angeles-based Academy Tent and Canvas, which closed its doors in February.

Aztec purchased Academy's manufacturing assets including exclusive rights to the product lines, designs, engineering, patterns and product names such as Acadaspan, Series 2000, Qwiktrac and Festival, the company said. Aztec also received the rights to the Academy telephone number, customer list, Web site and manufacturing equipment. Aztec has acquired another office and production facility in Torrance dedicated to manufacturing -- a growing sector of its business, the company reports.

Aztec has also retained many of Academy’s former employees, including Dave Bradley, vice president of manufacturing, and Guillermo Lizalde, manager of products, plus nearly 40 additional employees in production, cutting, sales, design and manufacturing.

"We have added some of the best people in the business to our team and have expanded and enhanced every aspect of our business," said Chuck Miller, Aztec president. "This will only strengthen our leadership position in this industry."
