Veteran TV interviewer Larry King was treated to a luxurious lounge look at his surprise 70th birthday party, staged Wednesday night at the Museum of Television & Radio in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Los Angeles-based event designer Edgar Zamora used King’s favorite colors—including pale watery blues—in a series of streamlined sofas in the reception area. Accents included custom Lucite tables with recesses filled with clean white floral. A focal point in the marble reception area was a 35-foot-wide wall of 7,000 green apples stung on wire in 10-foot strands hanging from ceiling to floor. In the rooftop tent, a striped ceiling liner was lit from above with pin-spotted disco balls. Gobos of tree branches played against the museum’s walls.

Guests ranged from newsman Mike Wallace to celebrities including Sharon Stone, Don Rickles and Sid Caesar, politicos such as former California governor Gray Davis, attorneys Johnnie Cochran and Robert Shapiro, and veteran producer George Schlatter.
