hotel, located in New York’s financial district, was not damaged by the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center, according to Kurt Genden, vice president of Evans Communications, the public relations firm which represents the property. Genden said the hotel is currently operating as a relief center for emergency crews involved in rescue efforts at the attack site. He explained that the hotel converted its ornate 12,000-square-foot ballroom into “one of the only centers nearby to give policemen, firefighters and other emergency workers a hot meal,” and added, “Our top priority is to give rescue workers a place to take a nap, call home, whatever they need.” The hotel is expected to resume regular operations on Friday, Sept. 21. Regent International Hotels, which operates the Regent Wall Street, has encouraged all of its hotels to waive cancellation policies and help travelers in need of assistance, a statement on the company’s Web site said.
