The wedding plans of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles had more than the usual share of snags. There were snafus over the venue, her future title, and the wedding date itself, finally postponed to avoid conflict with the funeral of Pope John Paul II. But special event professionals—naturally—helped ensure that the sun shone for the couple’s church blessing.

Lighting director Bernie Davis used a Compulite Vector control system at the April 9 ceremony in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. To house all lighting controls, a 12-by-8-foot modular building was squeezed in between generators just outside the nearly 500-year-old chapel.

"The Vector iControl iPAQ based wireless remote control was really useful yet again; we simply rigged an Ethernet cable through the window and placed an access point in the organ loft," Davis said. "This gave me remote control of the desk throughout the chapel, which is essential in a building of this type." Stagetec Distribution is the U.K. importer and distributor of Compulite lighting equipment.
