More than 6,300 special event professionals have already registered to attend The Special Event 2007, which runs through Friday at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

At last night's Welcome Event, sponsored by the National Association of Catering Executives, the California Science Center opened its 240,000 square feet to serve as a dramatic backdrop showcasing the cuisine of local caterers and restaurants. Guests sampled treats and sipped on cocktails from sponsor Absolut while enjoying the music of Al McKay, performing the music of legendary band Earth, Wind and Fire.

Education sessions yesterday included "Style This Menu," "Event Planning Basics" and "Queer Eyes and a Straight Guy: Event Makeovers on a Tight Budget."

Today's events include the Opening General Session, featuring the Muytator, the sold-out Wedding Lunch and the "Diva Bling" Opening Night Party.
