Take a shot: The new mini-golf course features a nautical theme.
Pacific Park amusement park in Santa Monica, Calif., introduced its latest attractions at a sunset ceremony yesterday. Pirates’ Pier, the new nine-hole mini-golf course, was christened in the traditional manner—with a champagne bath over the galleon-shaped entrance. Guests were invited to play a round of golf or take a spin on the Inkie’s Scrambler and Pacific Plunge rides.
Roving pirates—accompanied by their parrots, of course—and a steel pan performer added to the festive atmosphere. Cocktail tables covered in vivid tropical-hued tablecloths featured pirate’s booty—colorful bead necklaces and gold-wrapped chocolate coins.

Some 125 guests, including media and meeting planners, grazed from a treasure trove of buffet-style hors d’oeuvre from the park’s catering department. Choices included roasted new potatoes topped with dill cream and caviar, chicken-pineapple skewers, and endive leaves filled with bleu cheese mousse and candied walnuts; grog included a selection of beer and wine. For the wee landlubbers, there were mini cheeseburgers, corn dogs, chicken fingers and waffle fries.
These attractions bring the number of rides at Pacific Park to more than a dozen. The park may be bought out for private events for up to 2,250 guests; two smaller event pavilions are also available for groups up to 475. --Kelly Wardle
