Beijing to restrict smoking Although China is a huge market for cigarettes, officials will restrict smoking in most public venues starting May1 as part of its pledge to host a smoke-free Olympics. The Games start Aug. 8. Hotels will be required to provide nonsmoking rooms, and those lighting up on public transport, in movie theaters and enclosed public spaces will be fined. Spiff-up due for Sheraton Starwood Hotels & Resorts is launching a three-year, $40 billion project to renovate its 400-property Sheraton brand. The plan includes revamping lobbies to create sociable areas filled with plants and benches and offering in-room menus created by a nutritionist who trains professional athletes.
