The party rental scene stayed lively last week with the announcement of two transactions.

Bill Moore, formerly CFO of Los Angeles-based party rental giant Classic Party Rentals, has taken over Woburn, Mass.-based Festive Occasions, founded in 1982 by Jane and Paul Gillespie. The company, which serves greater Boston and New England, will continue under the Festive Occasions name.

Moore tells Special Events that he is still "taking the pulse of the company," but is delighted with the high-quality inventory, including such lines as Riedel crystal, and the caliber of the staff. "In terms of people and inventory, I couldn’t ask for better," he said.

Also last week came word that Houston-based Aztec Party & Tent Rentals, which ranks No. 6 on Special Events' "30 Top Event Rental Companies" list, has acquired San Antonio-base Aztec Events & Party Rentals. According to published reports, Aztec Party president Todd Johnson plans to keep the current staff in place in the San Antonio outlet while expanding its inventory with a broader line of tents and concessions equipment.
