A spokesperson for Los Angeles-based party rental giant Classic Party Rentals told Special Events today that longtime leader Mike Bjornstad, with the company since founder Richard LoGuercio sold it in 1996, has resigned as COO.

Bjornstad will remain on the Classic board of directors, said communications consultant Christine Merser.

Bjornstad "decided it was time" to make the change, Merser said, and is "excited to stay on the board."

Classic ranks No. 1 on the Special Events' list of the biggest event rental companies. Pedro Mata took the post of president and CEO in March of last year after a stint as interim CEO following the resignation of John Campanelli in September 2009.
