The landmark Hilton Americas-Houston in Houston has been named the first hotel in Texas to achieve the Green Seal certification on the silver level from the nonprofit Green Seal organization.

To qualify for Green Seal certification, a hotel must demonstrate sustainable practices in the following areas: waste minimization, reuse and recycling; energy efficiency, conservation and management; management of fresh water resources; waste water management; hazardous substances management; and environmentally sensitive purchasing.

Certification requires an initial evaluation by Green Seal, including an on-site audit of the property, and annual monitoring to ensure ongoing compliance.

The property, located adjacent to the George R. Brown Convention Center, offers 1,203 guest rooms and 91,500 square feet of flexible meeting space.
