I had the very great pleasure to visit the ISES San Antonio chapter last week. And even though I gave a different speech than the one they had expected (sorry, I must have missed the memo!), that was the only sour note on a very sweet day.
ISES San Antonio isn't the biggest ISES chapter—they have Dallas, Houston and Austin to contend with. But the community spirit I saw in my brief stay there has persuaded me that they will keep growing.
After a delightful reception, dinner and program (at the beautiful Rosenberg Sky Room at the University of the Incarnate Word), many chapter members banded together to head out to the opening party of a new venue in town. The reason: The chapter wanted to show its support of this new venture.
You can talk about supporting your colleagues—who often are your competitors—in order to advance the profession as a whole. Or you can honestly do it.
Congratulations, ISES San Antonio, for showing what ISES is all about. I was proud to be with you.
