The Society of Incentive & Travel Executives' University of the Americas, a multi-day educational conference held in Costa Rica in June, attracted 405 attendees from two dozen countries, according to Jill Harrington, SITE executive vice president and CEO. The conference, which highlights international destinations and includes a range of seminars and activities, has been running since 1983.
Harrington says this year's program exceeded SITE's expectations, and adds, “The local incentive community did an amazing job of showcasing the destination and demonstrating their abilities to deliver on the promises inherent in incentive travel.”
The 2001 educational curriculum was based on the theme In Search of Solutions, and covered issues including adventure travel, liability exposure, Web trends and team building.
Harrington credits the Costa Rican host committee as “masters of event planning,” and calls this year's program “a benchmark event for the industry.” She adds that SITE is already looking forward to next year's Conference, to be held June 9-12 in Cancun, Mexico.
