Industry pioneer James Carl “Jim” Monroe, CMP, CSEP, has died. With his wife and longtime business partner, Jayna, CMP, Monroe founded Dallas-based J Monroe Designs in 2003.

He entered the event industry in its infancy, in the 1970s, and built a business that decorated and managed events for both corporate and social clients.

An educator and frequent winner of industry awards, Monroe also wrote the college textbook on the art of special event design and decor titled “Art of the Event.” The book, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., received the Esprit Award from the International Special Event Society (now the International Live Events Association) as Best Industry Contribution for 2006.

A celebration of his life is being planned.
