They say that travelling the world leaves you speechless--and then turns you into a storyteller. After following the global journey of Creativiva’s one-of-a-kind costumes, no words will ever ring truer.
A live entertainment company headquartered in Toronto, Canada, with offices in London and New York, Creativiva has produced some of the most unique, multi-genre and high-quality productions around the world for over 15 years. From corporate events and award ceremonies to grandiose open air shows and touring theatricals, Creativiva’s innovative and imaginative worldwide productions are nothing short of spectacular.
So where does the journey all begin? It starts with a passion for creation, says Lukas Cabalka, artistic director and founder of Creativiva.
“But then the actual knowledge of craftsmanship in aspects such as directing, dramaturgy, choreography, scenic design and other designing elements--costume, makeup, set, prop, music composition and editing, lighting design, special effects--these all need to come together and create harmony,” Cabalka adds. “That’s the one side of a Creativiva production."
"The other side that we aim for is the actual quality of talent that we cast from all over the world and mold into our vision," he adds.
The breath-taking costumes play a significant role in every production--so naturally, much time is placed on every detail of its design. Creativiva is constantly scouting and working with multi-generational tailors and craftsmen from all over the world, in countries such as Spain, France, Canada and Italy.
Depending on the costume’s complexity and its specific needs, tailors and designers with unique specialties, many of whom have been producing this artistry for decades, work to create these one-of-a-kind costumes. Once the costumes are ready to go, they travel around the world where they are featured in events of every kind, pushing the boundaries and telling stories along the way.
“What is exciting about every new project at Creativiva is that each production is fully customized, making every single one entirely unique,” mentions Cabalka. “There is no ‘off the shelf’ aspect in any of our projects. Each event begins with an idea that we then compose into a concept and that’s when it all starts—the entire alchemy of elements and essentials. The most memorable projects are the ones where we achieve that effect of provoking and evoking the audience, their senses and emotions.”
Every aspect of their productions is crafted with careful thought and consideration, truly showcasing Creativiva’s European craftsmanship and attention to quality in all areas of their productions. From stunning “mirror” suits in Dubai to “Living Statues” in Phuket, the costumes often play a key role in creating these unique visual experiences--leaving people speechless.
Take a peek in Creativiva’s closet and you can find the newest addition to their custom-made costume family: their incredibly popular LED corsets. Recently featured in events in Thailand, the corsets change colour and patterns with the rhythm and mood of the production. Bringing classical fashion trends together with modern ground-breaking entertainment and artistic production, these LED corsets have mesmerized everyone who has laid their eyes on them.
Travel west from Thailand to Dubai and you’d be lucky enough to experience Creativiva’s “Statuesque Neos” performance. Also featured at events in Moscow, New York and Bahamas, these living statues blend art with entertainment, serving as live installations on podiums, changing poses to demonstrate unusual shapes within each movement. Based on the movement of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, this live “neo-geo” art showcases the brilliant geometry of shapes, the power of colour and movement.
But the costumes mean nothing until someone lives in them--and that means continuously scouting the most gifted musicians, dancers, actors and acrobats around the world that can truly bring these unique experiences to life.
With a new year ahead, Cabalka is excited to continue the journey of this worldwide company and create more memorable experiences for large audiences around the globe. “We never rest and are always curious and hungry to create and discover new directions. We are constantly experimenting with the fusion of hi-tech, sensory and theatrical elements, crossing borders in disciplines and genres, and eternally looking for the ‘absolute beauty’--aesthetics that are timelessly energizing and inspiring for all of us!”
