Venue News for Sept. 30, 2009

Walt Disney Family Museum Opens Oct. 1
New in San Francisco's Presidio is the Walt Disney Family Museum, which opens tomorrow, Oct. 1. The museum chronicles the early life of Walt Disney, from his pioneering cartoon days through his remarkable success in entertainment and theme parks. With an emphasis on creativity and innovation, exhibits include his early drawings, storyboards, the narrow-gauge Lilly Belle train Disney built for his home, and his early model for Disneyland. Also featured will be many home movies shot by Disney himself. The focus is on interactive exhibits. Photo courtesy Walt Disney Family Foundation © Disney.

Turbine Hall Opens in Pennsylvania
A former power station, Turbine Hall in Chester, Pa., offers 28,000 square feet of space in a stately, Beaux Arts-era setting. The venue features a 100-foot vaulted ceiling and state-of-the-art audiovisual capabilities, four 23-foot wall-mounted projection screens with matching truss-mounted projectors, a built-in stage, a lounge area with black leather soft seating, a bar, and free, secure parking, management says. The space can be configured to host a variety of events, from seated dinners for 600 to parties and corporate meetings for 1,000. The venue is close to Philadelphia's city center, New Jersey and Delaware.

Chicago/Indian Lakes Resort Offers Affordable Resort Option
The Hilton Chicago/Indian Lakes Resort, in Bloomington, Ill., bills itself as a smaller resort that is easier on the pocketbook, but still offers the amenities of larger, pricier properties. The resort provides 50,000 square feet of functional indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, and 27 holes of championship golf. The largest event space seats 1,200; private conference rooms equipped with the latest technology are also available. The property features a dramatic six-story, Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired lobby and two nighttime haunts: The Cave Bar, with a natural setting of falling waters and lush landscaping, and Izzy and Moe's Speakeasy Nightclub, featuring karaoke and DJs.
