Special Events magazine announces today that Larry Green will receive the 2020 Richard Carbotti Gala Award, which recognizes his longtime commitment to volunteerism. The award will be presented at The Special Event 2020 in Las Vegas on March 12.
The award was launched at The Special Event 2015 in honor of late industry icon Richard Carbotti. It is a tribute to the generosity of spirit that is characteristic of the event industry. Prior winners of the Carbotti Award are Jerry Hellmann (AFR), Joann Roth-Oseary (Someone’s in the Kitchen), Tony Conway (Legendary Events) and Susie Perelman (Mosaic).
Green is a graduate of Bentley University with a BS in Accounting. He began his foray into the special events industry in 1966, when he co-founded Green Manor Catering, and has been involved in the industry ever since. In 1997, he began importing and distributing wholesale china, porcelain, serving pieces and other products through his company International Event Products. He started Rentals Unlimited in the early 1980s, building it into a nationally renowned business. Green sold the business in 2016; it now operates under the name Peak Event Services. He continues to serve the operation as a consultant.
GOOD TO GIVE In his philanthropic efforts, Green serves as the vice president of Event Pros Take Action, treasurer and past president of the SEARCH Foundation, past treasurer for Boston Wedding Group, past president of ILEA Boston, and past board member for ILEA Rhode Island. He also supports and participates in other industry-based associations: NACE, MPI, ICA, ARA, PCMA and SHFM, as well as local chambers of commerce and visitor bureaus.
Says Event Pros Take Action co-founder Susie Perelman, “Larry Green and I have had a decade of experiences together giving back to communities who have suffered from environmental catastrophe and are in the process of rebuilding. Larry is always the first to step up, make a financial contribution to the cause, and to mobilize our troops to make a difference to others. He leads by example, and works tirelessly to assist those in need. He has a can-do attitude and makes it is mission to find solutions in the most challenging of work environments.”
Green received the 2015 Special Events Gala Award for Lifetime Achievement and the 2018 Steve Kemble Leadership award. He is a longtime supporter of the Pan Mass Challenge and has served on dozens of philanthropic boards. He is currently serving on the Celebration for Kids board, which raises funds for Rodman Ride for Kids. He also served as a chairman for the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston, past chairman of Jewish Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Boston, and a trustee of Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Boston.
