Convention Center would do little to help hotel bookings in the area because room rates are already steep, according to a study noted in the Miami Herald. The rising tide of condo-hotel units has kept pressure on hotel rates, in turn bruising convention business. A debate has been brewing over whether a more attractive ballroom facility would draw planners, or if cheaper rooms are a better lure.
