Balloon ban deflates A proposed ban on helium-filled foil balloons has withered in the California Legislature in the face of vehement protests from manufacturers, decorators and florists. Its backer, Sen. Jack Scott, initially argued that such balloons caused more than 800 power outages in California last year by hitting and then short-circuiting power lines. Scott has now proposed a compromise that would toughen existing state law requiring weights and warnings be attached to helium-filled metallic balloons. Bil-Jax acquired by Haulotte Archbold, Ohio-based scaffolding, staging and equipment company Bil-Jax announced last week that it has been acquired by the U.S. subsidiary of French giant Haulotte Group, a manufacturer of lifts and cranes. "We believe this alliance with Haulotte Group will deliver superior value, better choices and more innovation to our customers and industry partners," Bil-Jax CEO Jeff Ott said in a statement. "Additionally, it will increase products offerings and create a position outside of the U.S." ...
Signature picks up American Turf New York-based Signature Fencing and Flooring, a provider of modular flooring systems for tents and special events, said Friday that it has acquired American Turf and Carpet, based in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., which supplies event turf and carpet. The companies will offer each other's products and services through a network of five warehouses and manufacturing facilities, according to a statement from Signature. “When we considered an acquisition in the turf and carpet space, American Turf and Carpet was the natural and obvious choice," said Eric Hochman, Signature Fencing and Flooring senior vice president. "We ourselves were customers of ATC and had worked with them for years. By combining our event flooring products with their floor covering products and services, we now provide a one-stop-shop for every event customer’s need.”
