Oh so social Special event professionals are embracing online social networking via sites such as MySpace and Facebook, a recent survey from Special Events Magazine shows. A total of 40 percent of respondents go online for both their professional and social networking, while 23 percent use the sites for their personal lives only and 5 percent for their professional lives only. Ten percent don't do it now but "are considering it"; 21 percent say they do not use online social networking and have no plans to do so ….
Measuring green The Accepted Practices Exchange project from the Convention Industry Council will tackle the challenge of creating standards for determining how events and meetings can be considered "green." Occasions Caterers goes green Washington-based Occasions Caterers announced last week that it is the first caterer to sign up with the Green Restaurant Association, part of its ongoing commitment to help customers meet their sustainability goals at special events. The company is also working with the U.S Green Building Council. "The reality is that due to the nature of the business, the catering industry unintentionally contributes to the general waste of food and plastic products," said Occasions owner Mark Michaels. "We are very pleased to be starting the process towards a greener future."
