The swinging '60s style revived by the Austin Powers movies is still in the groove. For a recent event, Randy Fuhrman's Creative Concept of Los Angeles created an Austin-inspired birthday party at a hip Hollywood nightclub. The food and decor evoked the year of the client's birth-1969.
The array of appetizers included such vintage favorites as pigs in blankets, Swedish meatballs, deviled eggs and Ding Dongs, as well as custom creations such as "Afro-desiac" oyster shooters, "Pass the Doobie" taquitoes and gooey "Woodstock Mud" cake.
In addition to colorful cut-out flowers, patent leather cocktail tables and go-go dancers, loops of movies such as The Party, Barbarella and I Love You, Alice B. Toklas were projected onto scrims set up around the club. Yeah, baby!
