ISES Live: The Creative Experience
By Robert Wright
In his new book “Creative Intelligence,” Bruce Nussbaum, a professor at Parsons The New School for Design in New YorkCity, says that creativity is an undervalued skill that anyone can cultivate. Creativity is not, he argues, something reserved just for artists, designers and musicians. Indeed, Nussbaum believes that Creative Intelligence (or CQ for short) is what will ultimately separate the winners from the losers in the wider world of business.
Creativity and, more importantly, the creative process, are things we are all currently very focused on as the battle for new ideas and new thinking becomes even more intense. This focus on creativity and the creative process forms the basis of the educational content within ISES Live, ISES’ new international event for the creative event professional.
As well as creating and delivering something totally different for the events industry, ISES Live has been designed to provide a new event experience. The concept is something that not only stimulates and encourages creative thought and the generation of new ideas, but also enables our delegates to turn those thoughts and ideas into tangible business solutions and commercial opportunities.
ISES is also making sure that it doesn’t lose sight of what we do as an industry: face-to-face communication. Whether ISES members are producing an awards ceremony in Chicago, planning an incentive trip to Dubai, staging a sales conference in Vancouver or creating a magical wedding in Paris, they are using the power of events to communicate a message, thought or emotion through a live, face-to-face experience. At ISES Live, we are using a variety of live experiences to deliver some of the best educational content ever seen in this industry.
The live experiences will also occur outside of the education sessions, with a variety of networking and knowledge-sharing activities being woven into the three-day event. This will allow attendees to become immersed in the creative process through informal group discussions in a relaxed environment, allowing even greater opportunity for creative intelligence to be realized.
Creativity is not something used just for artistic purposes. Creativity is within all of us, every single day. Creative intelligence is becoming more significant as clients demand even more imaginative solutions and inventive approaches to their own events from creative event professionals.
ISES Live is here for you to be part of that creative experience. You’ll obtain superior creative intelligence and, ultimately, you’ll remain a winner.
ISES Live takes place at Atlantis, Nassau, Bahamas, Aug. 22-24, 2013. For further information on the program and registration details, visit www.iseslive.com.

THOUGHT TALKS AND DEEP DIVES ISES Live® 2013 offers a series of Thought Talks, which are "TED"-style presentations focusing on key themes in the creative events profession. Each of the nine 15-minute Thought Talks will be followed by more detailed, hour-long Deep Dives to focus on specific elements of inspiration, brainstorming, creative blocks and decision-making. Thought Talks and Deep Dives will center on common issues faced by creative events professionals and your counterparts in the creative arts of fashion, film, music, marketing and design.
TRAILBLAZER’S ANALYSES Three individual sessions covering a range of creativity topics, including roundtable discussions on creativity challenges, dam-busting creativity blocks, and effectively managing the creative process to ensure useful outcomes.
CREATIVITY SPARKS A series of short, 15-minute problem-solving sessions intended to engage your creative mind in defining issues and formulating solutions.
INSPIRATION EXCHANGES Five separate individual group events designed to provide an interactive forum for idea creation and inventiveness, using real examples of live event experiences. Learn and share with your fellow attendees.
DESIGN CHALLENGES Experience a hands-on interactive activity by learning a design process from a thought leader, and then use their creativity to innovate your own design. Guidance will be provided and some challenges will make you think outside the box. It wouldn’t be a challenge if it were simple, right?
REFLECTIONS ISES Live® 2013 will conclude with Reflections, a group session that will summarize all of the key learnings from our three-day event and provide guidance on how to implement the content received into deliverable actions.

ISES Live: Education Like Never Before
By Debbie Bueckman, DMCP
By now, I hope you have read and heard that ISES Live education will be unlike any ISES or other industry conference you have experienced before. Let’s dive deeper into what you can expect.
The vision behind ISES Live education has come from much research and many resources in styles on education. Where ISES’ previous focus had been on cross-disciplinary event education, you will see with ISES Live it is focusing on bringing the creativity out of you.
Most of our speakers, or as we now refer to them as thought leaders, are not directly involved within the special events community. However, you will be inspired when they share their creative processes and experiences on topics ranging from fashion to social media to music.
Another noticeable change with ISES Live is the presentation structures. This year, we are not offering a classic track system per your discipline or experience level. You will also not experience the standard one-way presentation model. Each presentation is being constructed to engage our attendees. We want you to be a part of your educational experience.
Personally, the format I am most excited for is our Thought Talk and Deep Dive presentations occurring on Friday, Aug. 23. This format will feature a rotation of nine thought leaders throughout the day on the main stage with an opportunity for you to watch all nine or connect further with those of greatest interest in a follow-up breakout session. Each thought leader will give a 15-minute TED-style presentation on the main stage followed up by a one-hour Deep Dive conversation for those wanting to engage further.
Please head to www.ises.com to learn more on this presentation style as well all the others that will be offered.
While there are other educational opportunities for you to learn at ISES Live, including how to improve your job skills and even learn hot trends, you will return to your office with new inspiration and innovative skills for problem-solving, collaboration and pushing your creativity to the next career level.
