Cheryl Cecchetto, Owner/President
At the helm of Sequoia Productions is Cheryl Cecchetto, who has made a name for herself in the industry as a top event producer and business owner. She is often interviewed for her expertise on shows such as “Good Morning America,” “Canada AM,” CNN, E! Entertainment, “Entertainment Tonight,” “Access Hollywood” and many others. Cheryl and the Sequoia Productions team have also been featured in the Los Angeles Times, InStyle, the Robb Report and many other print media outlets.
Cecchetto believes that her company's success stems from old-fashioned values, hard work, risk and maintaining great communication with the client. “I work from the foundation of a relationship with all my clients,” Cecchetto says. “It's our job to assist them in realizing their vision, and nothing is more satisfying than seeing that vision become a reality.”
Cecchetto and her staff attend to each element of the production with an eye for balance.
“Everything is important,” she says. “Every option is treated as if it were a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Cecchetto is a multi-tasker who balances her work life with her home life to keep her motivated, energized and supremely creative. Chef Roland Mesnier, Former Executive Pastry Chef of the White House 1979 - 2006 Longest Serving Chef in the History of the American Presidency
Chef Roland Mesnier will give a lively one-hour talk about his life and legendary career as the longest serving chef in the history of the White House. Chef Roland's entertaining stories and affectionate memories of each of the first families will delight and even surprise you. A question-and-answer session is included as part of this appearance.
Born into a family of nine children in the tiny village of Bonnay in France, Roland Mesnier discovered his vocation by accident on a summer day at the age of 12. Apprenticing to his older brother Jean, Roland began working at the local patisserie in exchange for room and board. From there he was hired as the pastry sous chef at the iconic Savoy Hotel in London, and after that was hired as the executive pastry chef at what is now the Four Seasons George V hotel in Paris. Chef Mesnier came to the United States in April 1976 as executive pastry chef at The Homestead, a venerable resort hotel in Hot Springs, Va.
Hired in 1979 by first lady Rosalyn Carter, Roland Mesnier became the first ever non-American to serve in the White House and went on to become the longest tenured chef ever — pastry or culinary — in the history of the White House
Chef Mesnier has won 18 gold medals, four silver and three bronze for his pastry creations in competitions around the world. He is a member of the Academie Culinaire de France and the recipient of many awards and accolades, including the French Legion of Honor in 2005 — the highest honor bestowed on a French citizen. He is the author of three books, “Dessert University,” “Basic to Beautiful Cakes” and “All the Presidents' Pastries: A Memoir.” His fourth book, “A Sweet World of White House Desserts,” was released last fall by the White House Historical Association.
While Chef Mesnier retired from the White House in 2006, he still travels the United States and the world giving speeches, judging pastry competitions and participating in fundraising events and book signings.

EXCERPTS FROM 2012: A SPECIAL EVENT ODYSSEY

The date is April 30, 2012, and Martin Van Keken is going to have a busy day. Since Martin hasn't had time to file the tax returns he completed two weeks ago, he uploads them and sends them by email to Revenue Canada from his office in Vancouver. Next, Martin goes shopping at The Special Event Cyberspace Show, an alternative to Special Events magazine's annual live trade show, which is available throughout the year. There, he selects some decor items he is considering for one of his mega-events in March 2013. After downloading the necessary 3D photographs with audio descriptions, dimensions and stats for each, he emails them to John Daly, lead event team designer. Next, he surfs the Internet's World Wide Web to research specifics on menu items to complement the event theme for that same event and emails them to Paula LeDuc, who will develop the menus for the multiple-day event in the Cayman Islands.
This is a scene from the Year 2012 as projected from the technology that we have today. Consider what some of today's innovators have to predict about the future of special events that industry leaders expressed back in 1997:
