Think Carmen Miranda, think Esther Williams as a mermaid—think a chic-and-cheerful take on lively Latin nightclubs from days gone by. That will be the beautiful scene guests enjoy at the 83rd annual Academy Awards Governors Ball on Feb. 27, staged by veteran event producer Sequoia Productions, caterer Wolfgang Puck and florist Mark's Garden.
Today, the event team gave a sneak peek at the gala, which will be held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
PLENTY OF PAILLETTES
The event will feature a palette of amber, turquoise, red and purple, showcased in linens studded with paillettes.
Unlike years past when towering centerpieces dominated tables, this year tables will sport cozy clusters of low vases brimming with roses, orchids and tropical leaves.
PUCK PRESENTS THEMED MENU
Superstar chef/caterer Wolfgang Puck delighted reporters with a preview of the Oscar menu, which will feature longtime favorites such as mini Kobe cheeseburgers and smoked salmon on "Oscar" flatbread cut-outs, as well as dishes themed to Oscar nominees. For example, in honor of Best Picture nominee "The King's Speech," the menu will feature an English pan-roasted Dover sole.
