Westin Phoenix Downtown Debuts
Open four months, the Westin Phoenix Downtown is dedicated to small meetings, management says. The 15,244 square feet of event and meeting space includes the 3,000-square-foot Copper Ballroom, which features an 84-foot expanse of windows and seats 200. Three smaller meeting rooms range in size from 667 to 1,100 square feet; the Malachite Ballroom is iPad-compatible. The Lapis pool terrace is ideal for outdoor receptions and dinners. Executive chef David Viviano prepares catering menus with a focus on responsibly grown foodstuffs. A light-rail stop directly across the street provides quick access to north-central Phoenix and Tempe, Ariz.
Deals Offered for Hershey Meetings
Planners who book at the Hershey properties in Hershey, Pa., this fall can take advantage of special discounts. Rates from $159 and a 10 percent discount on the master bill are offered for newly booked meetings of 20 or more sleeping rooms for a minimum of two nights; the offer is valid through Dec. 31, 2011, and is based on availability. Meetings in September and October may qualify for free, $50 credit per registered group member; the credit is valid Sept. 1 though Oct. 31, 2011. The property offers more than 125,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and provides an in-house DMC to assist planners.
Fairmont Chateau Whistle Partners with Cultural Center
The Fairmont Chateau Whistler in Whistler, British Columbia, has partnered with the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre to offer a unique catering experience for corporate events. Celebrating two First Nations' cultures, the center is located within easy walking distance of the hotel and features more than 30,000 square feet of function space. Its Great Hall, which accommodates 300 guests for a reception or 160 seated, features indigenous art. The 220-foot-long Mezzanine Deck offers dramatic views of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains and a cozy fire pit. The center can arrange for traditional ceremonial drummers to greet guests.
