New York Rental Firms Merge; Aggreko Snags Olympics Contract
Service Party Rentals, Tri State Announce Merger
New York-based Service Party Rentals and Mount Vernon, N.Y.-based Tri State Top Notch have merged, creating what Service Party Rentals president Lance York said he hopes will soon be the No. 2 party rental operation in the New York area. (With revenue estimated at more than $25 million annually, Party Rental Ltd. of Teterboro, N.J., is widely regarded as No. 1 in the market.)
The new firm will go by the name Tri Serv LLC. Tri State principals John Dawson and Raymond Duffy will split management duties with York.
The merger gives Service Party Rentals access to Tri State's tent inventory. In turn, York is vice president of sister company Just Linens, New York, which offers specialty linen and tabletop items. "This all goes together very well," he said.
Both firms have operations on Long Island, which will be used to service events in the Hamptons. Also, Tri Serv plans to begin operating out of a new, 65,000-square-foot warehouse in the Bronx, complete with 12 loading bays, on March 1.
Lance projects that Tri Serv's 2001 rental revenue will hit $15 million. He also said that Tri Serv plans further expansion and acquisitions in the New York area.

Atlanta-based The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. has issued new guidelines to offer more value-based compensation for meeting planners, the company announced in November. "We have decided to restructure our commissions to equate the amount paid with the value of services provided," said Jim Schultenover, corporate vice president of sales and marketing. From now on, only full-service meeting planners who conduct on-site inspections, event planning and on-site meeting management and are responsible for ensuring payment will receive a commission of 10 percent. Site selectors-whose responsibilities include contacting hotels to check availability, receiving proposals and negotiating contracts-will earn a commission of 3 percent. Schultenover said changes in the meeting planning business in recent years precipitated the hotel chain's policy change. 3414 Peachtree Road, N.E., Suite 300, Atlanta, GA 30326; 404/237-5500; Web site: www.ritzcarlton.com.
