Looking to “go green” with your next event? The Green Meeting Industry Council, based in Portland, Ore., can help thanks to its newly expanded Web site.
The site www.greenmeetings.info is a rich source of information and resources on environmentally responsible meetings and events. The recently launched site includes:
- Links to recommended “best practices” for reducing the environmental impact of events, meetings and conferences.
- Case study examples of the environmental, business and community benefits of planning and supplying green events.
- Information on the GMIC’s upcoming Green Meetings Conference and Trade Show in Washington, Oct. 6-7.
- Links to award programs recognizing environmentally responsible events.
- Opportunities for GMIC members to access the Green Meetings Journal e-newsletter, databases and directories of green meeting professionals, and resources on how to address specific environmental issues at your event or facility, such as food waste, climate change, recycling, composting, energy efficiency, donation programs and more.
“The green meetings industry has been challenged in the past to coordinate and maintain a centralized information source on green meetings,” says GMIC board chair Amy Spatrisano. “The GMIC’s new site does this, and makes the task of greening meetings easier and more convenient for meeting professionals with helpful tips and resources in one online location that we will continue to update and expand.”
