Method 42 Conjures Up Venice for Hospital Fundraiser

The drama and mystery of a 16th century Venetian masked ball came to life at a fundraiser created by Foster City, Calif.-based Method 42 Productions. The 313-guest event, which benefitted Eden Medical Center, took place in May at Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery in Pleasanton, Calif.

Dubbed "Una Notte D'Amore," the event used Venetian masks—symbolic of elaborate 16th century masked balls--as its decor touchstone. Two 5-foot full-face Venetian masks dangled from a fabric-covered chandelier that itself was 8 feet wide and 7 feet tall; swags swept out from the centerpiece overhead, creating a dramatic canopy.

SPONSORS MASK COSTS

Method 42 offset costs by deliberately designing decor pieces that could carry sponsor branding, such as an ice bar and crystal towers. Potential sponsors could preview renderings—complete with their own brands already inserted—to prompt sponsorships. "The result—lower event/decor cost for the client, with more funds for charity," says Kim Bardakian, spokesperson for Method 42.

A rich array of small-scale entertainment—a fire-eater, glass-blower (plus Murano glass display), a candy-maker and even a golden pheasant in a 6-foot-tall ornate cage—provided intimate entertainment.
