The International Special Events Education Foundation (ISEF) has announced the establishment of a new industry scholarship in the memory of ISES founding member Klaus Inkamp. Inkamp served as ISEF founding president, director of meetings and special events for Coca-Cola USA and member of the Atlanta Chapter of ISES. ISEF is the nonprofit fund-raising arm of ISES; its mission is to provide funding for scholarship and research on behalf of the members of ISES.
The Coca-Cola Foundation, Atlanta, provided funding for the underwriting of a scholarship, which will be administered by ISEF and Georgia State University. The scholarship has been arranged with the cooperation of Georgia State University Hospitality Program under the direction of department chair Debbie Cannon and will allow a hospitality student to take a course at the university yearly. “We are so pleased that the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality at Georgia State University will be affiliated with the Klaus Inkamp Memorial Scholarship,” Cannon said. “Mr. Inkamp was a consummate professional, role model and teacher of special event planning on a global level. It is so fitting that students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and abilities, in his memory, as they prepare for leadership roles in the event industry."
Richard Aaron, CSEP, CMP, president of the ISEF Foundation, praised the partnership of the Foundation, Georgia State and ISEF, saying, "The joining together of these institutions is a real salute to Mr. Inkamp, as well as great day for the Atlanta event community. ISEF is always thrilled to open doors to aspiring event professionals with the establishment of a new ISEF scholarship."
Students may apply for the new scholarship, applicable to the 2004 academic year, this fall. The scholarship joins a dozen other scholarships now offered by ISEF. Details are available on the ISES Web site at wwww.ises.com, which also gives information on making donations to ISEF.
