Some 400 attendees were on hand as the International Special Events Society kicked off its annual “Eventworld” professional development conference yesterday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago.
The three-day event comprises 24 education sessions, eight preparatory courses for the Certified Special Event Professional designation and the black-tie Esprit Awards gala.

In yesterday’s opening session, Jim Law from the city’s Office of Special Events welcomed guests, followed by keynoter Scott Vogel, who addressed the crucial role that outstanding service plays in keeping a business viable.
In the educational sessions, Brian Acheson, CSEP, of VIP Events in Dallas moderated the panel “Events from Hell,” where event professionals shared disasters they had been though and asked for audience suggestions on possible solutions.
Eventworld attendees enjoyed Chicago’s famed nightlife with the welcome party at the Crystal Garden at Navy Pier. The six-story glass atrium housed buffets, bars and live entertainment, all keyed on a “red” theme for “Red Hot Chicago.”
Education programs continue today.
