Rentals form the base of any excellent event. Tables, chairs, bars, linens, tabletop items, drapery, lighting and decor come together to transform a plain and simple event space into one that is both breathtaking and awe-inspiring for clients and guests alike.
Beyond the basics, it is important to understand the rentals at your disposal when you work with a rental company and how they can assist you in terms of logistics and aesthetics.
After all, you cannot expect to fit an array of oversized farm tables in a space that can only accommodate 50 people comfortably. Likewise, rustic-inspired fixtures may not be the best fit for a modern and minimalist wedding at an art gallery.
When it comes down to it, building a strong relationship with your rental provider is the key to client satisfaction. Even the best ideas will falter without a diverse rental inventory at hand. Thus, your rental supplier is the solution to taking your designs to the next level. The more familiar you are with the inventory available, the better you can serve your clients with the furniture and decor items that best suit their needs and preferences.
JUST ASK
Ask your rental provider if you can tour their warehouse, sign up to receive their newsletters, and follow their social media accounts so you can stay up to date on the newest additions. Most rental companies tend to stock their inventory based on the industry trends of the moment, so things are always changing. Take some time to bring yourself up to speed on the latest rental trends so you can be prepared to snag popular items early and request other pieces if needed. Do not be afraid to consult with your rental supplier for ideas and inspiration about matching furniture and decor pieces.
With that said, here is an inside look at the rental trends you can expect to see in 2020:
LOUD LINENS
That’s right--couples are not afraid of bold colors or patterns on their tables, and we are seeing more and more opt for bigger and brighter prints for their linens in the new year. Think floral, botanical, geometric and watercolor patterns for inspiration. Pair the bolder linens with a sleek velvet napkin to complete the trending look.
For what it’s worth, neutral fabrics are also expanding, with fresh hues and prints so that every client can get a piece of the fun regardless of their design preferences. Instead of using just a basic polycotton, there are so many other “plain” linens with slight texture and life to them for those who don’t want a pattern but don’t necessarily want a “flat” table. These linen options are available in a wide range of color options so there is literally something for everyone!
COLORFUL CHINA
When it comes to color, bright is better. At least, that is how it will be in 2020, which should influence your rental orders in the year ahead.
We see more options for colors in the way of china, flatware, glassware and other tabletop decor. This allows for different hues to be mixed and matched for a one-of-a-kind custom design. Colored chargers can be a great way to add a pop of color when using a solid linen!
Also, do not be afraid to mix and match tabletop decor to bring in complementary textures and colors, such as mixing and matching chargers and dinnerware. Each layer of china can be coordinating but different in order to provide that unique tabletop experience.
FANCIFUL FURNITURE
In today’s marketplace, there has been an increased need for high-end furniture, bars and mirrored tables. Couples are seeking unique, non-traditional items to add to the overall event design and decor that will set them and their celebration apart from those of friends and families.
When it comes to furniture, be it a lounge space or a DIY bar, the theme for 2020 is to go big or go home. Over-the-top is welcomed, if not encouraged, so have some fun and get creative with rental furniture.
Of course, these are just a few popular rental trends we expect for 2020 and beyond. Be sure to keep a finger on the industry pulse so you can stay ahead of the curve on what clients are requesting. The best designers and the best salespeople are the ones who can anticipate upcoming trends and incorporate them into their work in fresh and innovative ways.
