The Special Event + Catersource—co-locating for the first time—had a boffo debut in Las Vegas Wednesday, treating attendees to a slate of education sessions, showcasing events, and a blockbuster opening session.
Some 20 different acts took the stage at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center for the kick-off event, from high-flying “Elvis” characters to showgirls to a daredevil roller-skating duo.
Keynote speaker Cyndie Spiegel helped attendees understand the difference between competition and collaboration, and offered specific steps for reaching out to potential collaboration partners. She then stepped into the audience to pair up event professionals as collaboration partners.
Wednesday also saw the opening of the show floor, offering a wide array of products and services for event pros and caterers. Exhibits are open today until 5 p.m.
A highlight of the show floor is the Tabletop Gallery, which features five dramatic tabletop designs. This year’s winner is “Muse” from MGM Resorts Event Productions.
On Tuesday, attendees had the chance to visit new event venue AREA 15.
Thursday’s show roster will include Michael Cerbelli’s “The Hot List,” the Leadership Lunch at the Keep Memory Alive Event Center, and Awards Night, presenting the Gala Awards, ACE Awards, and ICA Catie Awards.
